CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Mi’a S. Callens is the reigning 2011 Miss Alabama’s Outstanding Teen and Evening Gown Winner, 2010 Miss Jefferson County’s Outstanding Teen and also named Overall Talent winner. She was selected Miss Congeniality at 2010 Miss Alabama’s Outstanding Teen Pageant, held in Sylacauga, Alabama. Preceding this, Mi’a was a preliminary winner of various awards since the initiation of her participation in the Miss Alabama Organization. Mi’a was selected by a panel of judges as 2010 Oak Mountain High School 10th Grade Princess; where she is a Junior and an honor roll student. Mi’a is Vice President of FCCLA (Family, career, community leaders of America), Treasurer of Youth Legislative Committee, member of The National Society of High School Scholars, Spanish club, Key Club, Drama Club, POGS (Promotion of Girls Sports) Club and ConBrio Showchoir. Mi’a has been chosen based on her Leadership skills, vocal talent and moral characteristics, to represent the state of Alabama as a member of the Alabama Ambassador of Music Choir. She and other selective students will be providing music during their European Concert Tour to six to seven countries, June 2011. Mi’a enjoys community service and volunteering with Make-A-Wish Foundation. She is responsible for implementation of a National Program, known as the “Wrap Party”, that was added to list of Fundraiser ideas for Make-A-Wish, under the “Kids For Wish Kids” program. Mi’a has been involved and worked very hard to achieve her personal goal with raising over $11,200.00 for this organization. Mi’a was featured in the April 2010 Make-A-Wish newsletter as the Spotlight Volunteer (see attached newsletter). March 2011, Mi’a received a Prudential Spirit of Community Service award for her outstanding community service hours and financial achievements for “Make –A-Wish” foundation. Mi’a feels that building poise, self esteem and confidence at an early age is so valuable; because of this she serves as a Counselor for Summer Showoffs and enjoys working with the younger children. Mi’a enjoys her membership at The Worship Center Christian Church, under leadership of Pastor Van Moody. Mi’a is the daughter of Michael and Cassandra Callens and has two siblings, a brother, Darriel and a sister, Kyra. Kyra is excited as she serves as “Miss Alabama’s Outstanding Teen Rising Star” with her sister! Mia’s family pets, are Gracie and Match who are small dogs with Big energy!
